This psalm begins with these words, "I give you thanks, O Lord, with all my heart;"
We need to stop right here and think about this. Thanksgiving should always be a part of our worship and our prayers. The scripture mentions this over and over, and being unthankful is listed with the worst sins. Let's remember to thank God daily for material blessings, answers to prayer, protection, strength, comfort, family--all the things He has supplied when we need them.
The psalmist David praises the Lord for many blessings. Here are some of them.
- God's unfailing love and faithfulness. v. 2
- His answered prayer, encouragement, and strength. v. 3
- His glory is very great. v. 5
- He cares for the humble (but keeps His distance from the proud!) v. 6
- He provides protection. v. 7
- He will work out His plans for our lives. v. 8 Remember that God alone knows what is best for us!
Acts 16:1-10
We saw last time that Paul and Silas went their separate way from Barnabas and John Mark. Paul was disappointed for a time in John Mark, but God was working in John Mark's life, and He also provided another young helper for Paul. This young man was Timothy who had a good testimony among the believers at Derbe and Lystra. He would become like a son to Paul as they worked together for the Lord.
In vv. 6-10 we see that the Holy Spirit worked to change Paul's plans. It's good to make plans, but we must always be sensitive to God's leading and be willing to change our plans to match His. In this case, God wanted Paul and Silas to go to Macedonia to preach the Good News there.
