Genesis 1:28-31
After God created human beings, "Then God blessed them and said, 'Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.' Then God said, 'Look! I have given you every seed-bearing plant throughout the earth and all the fruit trees for your food. And I have given every green plant as food for all the wild animals, the birds in the sky, and the small animals that scurry along the ground--everything that has life.' And that is what happened. Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was very good! And evening passed and morning came, marking the sixth day."
What can we learn from this passage? The world was new, and Adam and Eve were to bring children into it. As we saw earlier, human beings are not a higher form of animal. We are a special creation from God, and in these verses, He clearly gives us dominion over the fish, birds, and animals. Of course, we should be good stewards of that which God has entrusted us. In other words, we are to do our best to conserve the natural world around us and take care of it and bring order to it. Plants, fish, birds, and animals are all part of God's creation. But they are not more important than people!
John MacArthur points out in his study Bible, p. 17, that before the fall of man (Genesis 3), people and animals alike were vegetarian. (vv. 29 and 30)
Psalm 146:1-6
These verses pretty much speak for themselves, and they are worthy of our meditation. Let us praise the Lord and place our confidence in the Creator of the universe. Who could be better to trust than He who made it all?
Praise the Lord!
Let all that I am praise the Lord.
I will praise the Lord as long as I live.
I will sing praises to my God with my dying breath.
Don't put your confidence in powerful people; there is no hope there.
When they breathe their last, they return to the earth, and all their plans die with them.
But joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their helper,
whose hope is in the Lord their God.
He made heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them.
He keeps every promise forever.
