2 Timothy 1:3-7; Psalm 116:1-2

2 Timothy 1:3-7
Paul gives us several examples here of good, sound Christianity--examples that we would do well to imitate.

  • Paul thanked God for Timothy.
  • He prayed faithfully day and night for him.
  • He felt true affection for him and looked forward to seeing him again.
  • He remembered Timothy's genuine faith.
    • This faith was first in his grandmother, Lois
    • and then in his mother, Eunice.
      • If you are a parent or a grandparent, you should never underestimate the power of your influence!
  • He (Paul) reminded Timothy to fan into flames the spiritual gift God had given him.
  • He also reminded Timothy that God hasn't given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of
    • power and
    • love and
    • self-discipline
OK, let's take stock:

  •  Are we thankful for people in our lives?
  • Do we pray faithfully for others?
  •  Do we feel true affection for other believers?
  • Can it be said that we have genuine faith?
  • Are we passing this faith on to our children, grandchildren, and others over whom we may have some influence?
  • Are we using our spiritual gifts?
  • Are we resisting fear and timidity?
  • Do we realize that God has given us the spirit of power and love and self-discipline?
Psalm 116:1-2
"I love the Lord because he hears my voice and my prayer for mercy. Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath!"
