Hebrews 7:20-28
There were many Old Testament priests, and they all died. "But because Jesus lives forever, his priesthood lasts forever. Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf." vv. 23-25 The King James Version includes the words "save to the uttermost" in v. 25. Warren Wiersbe made the following comments about this section, "Because He is a Priest forever, He saves forever. 'To the uttermost' means 'completely,' 'perfectly.' You are secure as long as He lives, and He lives eternally. You can live by the power of His endless life!" (Wiersbe, Warren. With the Word Bible Commentary, p. 1573.) What a wonderful promise! No one can add to or take away from what Jesus did the save us. We can be assured that because our High Priest Jesus lives and intercedes for us, we need not live in doubt, fear, or guilt.
Jesus death and resurrection brought an end to the Old Testament sacrificial system. He died once for and for all (v. 27) as a sacrifice for our sins--past, present, and future! Jesus has done it all! So how do the benefits of Jesus' work become ours? We simply accept this gift of salvation by faith, trusting entirely and only in Jesus.
Psalm 119:161-168
We should always respect God's Word, and we should love it and consider it a great treasure. vv. 161-63.
"Those who love your instructions have great peace and do not stumble." v. 165 Though people around us have no direction and are desperate for personal peace, we don't have to be one of them. This is a promise we should claim through our daily Bible study and meditation.
