Psalm 98

Psalm 98
Today we will take 2 looks at this psalm of praise. The better we know God, the better we are at praising Him. So first of all, let's see what we can learn about God from Psalm 98.

• He has done marvelous things. v. 1
• He has made His salvation known. v. 2
• He has revealed His righteousness to all the nations. v. 2
• He has been loving and faithful to Israel. v. 3
• He has shown salvation to the ends of the earth. v. 3
• He will one day come to judge the earth righteously and fairly. v. 9 He has already come once in the form of a man, Jesus Christ, and He will come again to judge and rule and reign.

OK, we have learned a little about God, now let's look at how to worship Him!

• "Sing to the Lord a new song."  v. 1 We are new creatures in Christ, born again into His family. Surely this gives us a new song in our hearts!
• "Shout for joy to the Lord." v. 4 Wow! We don't shout in our church, but maybe we should! At the very least we should be exuberant with joy because of our eternal salvation as well as peace in our hearts here on earth.
• "...burst into jubilant song with music." v. 5 I'm so thankful for the wonderful dedicated and sincere musicians we have in our church. What a great blessing! But we can still praise God with music even if we're not great musicians. I believe with all my heart that our singing praises to God is beautiful to Him.
• "Make music to the Lord with the harp...and the sound of singing, with trumpets and the blast of the ram's horn..." vv 5-6 I believe God likes music!
• "...shout for joy before the Lord, the King." v. 6
• All creation praises God as the Creator! vv. 7-9  We are not to worship creation, but we are to worship the God of creation! Let nature remind you of the great majesty and power of our God!
