The Old Testament Law was written on the stone tablets, Actually, the stone tablets contained the 10 Commandments which summarized the law. It was given in glory because it came from God for a special purpose (to show us our sinfulness), but it cannot compare with the "new way" by which we are made right with God through His Son Jesus. This relationship is more glorious and remains forever. It's glory will never fade. vv. 7-11
The Law could not save anyone, and those who depend on it for their salvation have a veil of misunderstanding covering their minds. "But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. For the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord--who is the Spirit--makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image." vv. 16-18
Let's pray that we will indeed reflect the glory of the Lord as we are being changed into his glorious image!
Psalm 37:1-9
I love this Psalm! In these 9 verses, let's look at what we are NOT supposed to do and then what we ARE supposed to do.
DON'T:
- Worry about the wicked or be envious of them. v.1, 7
- Be angry. v. 8
- Lose your temper. v. 8
DO:
- Trust in the Lord. v. 3
- Do good. v. 3
- Take delight in the Lord. v. 4
- Commit everything you do to the Lord. v. 5
- Trust Him. v. 5 (Do you think "trust in the Lord," v. 3 is the same as "trust him" in v. 5?)
- Be still in the presence of the Lord. v. 7
- Wait patiently for Him. v. 7
You will notice that the positive commands are generally given as a prerequisite for a promise from the Lord.
- Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. v. 2
- Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart's desires. v. 4 (On this one, we need to pray that our desires will be the same as the Lord's!)
- Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you.
