Ephesians 6:10-17

Ephesians 6:10-17
Paul tells us to "Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power."  And then he goes on to tell us how to do that even though we face a powerful enemy--actually enemies. Though we cannot see them, Satan and his legions of fallen angels are our enemies. (vv. 11-12) Now don't freak out! Satan is indeed powerful, but remember that God is all-powerful. We don't need to be afraid, but we do need to be vigilant and strong.

"Therefore, put on every piece of God's armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm." v. 13

The pieces of the armor:

• The belt of truth. Everything depends on the truth, and we find that in God's Word.
• The body armor of God's righteousness. Because we are believers, God considers us righteous.
• For shoes, wear the peace that comes from the Good News. The Gospel gives us support and stability.
• The shield of faith with which we can deflect the fiery arrows of the devil. Faith is trusting God in everything. "Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God." Romans 10:17
• The helmet of salvation which protects our minds and thoughts.
• The sword of the Spirit is the Word of God. Swords are defensive as are the other parts of the armor, but they are also offensive so that we can defeat the devil!
