Hebrews 10:26-39
We have seen so far in Hebrews 10 that for a believer, Jesus' death has taken care of sin once and for all. We have also seen that our Savior invites to come directly into God's presence any time to worship Him and to bring our prayers before Him.
The chapter closes with a responsibility that goes along with the many privileges of being a Christian. v. 26 sounds ominous, "Dear Friends, if we deliberately continue sinning after we have received knowledge of the truth, there is no longer any sacrifice that will cover these sins." This is saying that if a person deliberately rejects the sacrifice that Jesus has already made, there is no other plan. God has provided ONE sacrifice for sin that He will accept, and that is no other than the death of His Son, Jesus Christ, on the cross. Jesus Himself said this in John 14:6 when He said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me." God has provided no other way under heaven by which a person can be saved.
The warning goes on in v. 29 to say that people who have "trampled on the Son of God....have insulted and disdained the Holy Spirit who brings God's mercy to us." These people can expect God's judgment and punishment. In addition, there is also a warning to us as God's children. "The Lord will judge his own people." v. 30-31 This is speaking to believers who defy God's will and disgrace His name. He is our loving, yet firm, heavenly Father, and we should seek to please Him.
The chapter concludes with an encouragement to remain faithful even though it may mean ridicule or suffering.
Psalm 124
Sometimes many hard circumstances seem to come at once. You know, the "when it rains it pours" thing! Maybe it's enemies of various kinds, or illness, or obstacles, or troubles of any kinds. These may seem to swallow or engulf or overwhelm us. God Himself is the answer to all these! "Our help is from the Lord, who made heaven and earth." v. 8 Let's not underestimate God's power! He has all resources, and He can break the trap, cause our escape and set us free! v. 7
