The great leader Moses had a heritage of faith. His parents trusted God for his safety and his future. This is a powerful lesson. We must pray for our children and teach them God's truths. However, as we all know, our parenting is imperfect. Faith allows us to fully entrust God with our children. He has a plan for them just as He did for Moses.
Born as a slave in Egypt, it was God's plan that Moses' life be spared by Pharaoh's daughter adopting him. She raised him in Pharaoh's own home. We can imagine what courage it took to give this up. Because of his faith in God, he recognized the emptiness and the fleeting nature of earthly wealth and prestige. This is another powerful lesson for us--we must not get attached to earthly or material things, popularity or positions. We must keep our priorities on the eternal! Like Moses, we must look ahead to our great reward by keeping our eyes on the one who is invisible. vv. 26-27 Even under the severest trial when the very lives of the first born were at stake, Moses commanded the people of Israel to sprinkle the blood on the doorposts. This was indeed an act of faith, and it looks forward to the time when the blood of Christ would be offered for our salvation. And finally, by faith the people of Israel followed Moses to safety across the Red Sea. These were very dramatic events, but they teach us that whether our trials are great or small, we can trust God with them.
Psalm 129
Israel's persecution felt like someone was plowing right over their backs! How should be respond when persecution comes our way (and it may very well be coming--we see great persecution of believers in other parts of the world)?
- You trust the Lord, and you don't let it defeat you! v. 2
- You remember that the Lord is good! v. 4 In His own time, He will rescue us from the ungodly. v. 4
- You wait for the Lord to judge your enemies. vv. 5-7
- You trust God for His promised blessing. v. 8
