Hebrews 11:7-10
Hebrews 11 gives us a list of great examples of faith from the Old Testament.
v. 7 reminds us of Noah who was willing to obey God even though his actions seemed foolish to those around him, and he suffered rejection from them. When we obey God, we also may appear "different" to people around us, and we may even experience ridicule and rejection.
Abraham is a wonderful example of faith. He obeyed God by leaving his homeland, not even knowing where he was going! We know that Abraham was not a perfect man, but we can certainly see that he was a man of faith even going to far as being willing to sacrifice his son, Isaac. Genesis 22. We can be thankful that God does not routinely ask such hard things of His children, but sometimes He does ask us by faith to step out of our comfort zone in obedience to Him.
Psalm 126
This Psalm is a celebration after God delivered Jerusalem from her enemies. Like Israel, we must not forget to give God praise and credit for his abundant mercy and grace toward us. God can still restore broken lives. Yes, He can still do amazing things! Things that seem devastating can cause us to grow into better and stronger people. Streams can renew the desert. v. 4 "Those who plant in tears will harvest with shouts of joy. They weep as they go to plant their seed, but they sing as they return with the harvest." vv. 5-6 Never forget that God is able to bring good out of tragedy, that difficult times will pass, and through the Lord's grace, we can find joy again.
