These verses give us biblical examples of false teachers which were mentioned in the earlier verses.
- Israel, when they weren't faithful to God even after He rescued them. v.5
- The angels who rebelled against God and followed Satan. v. 6
- Sodom and Gomorrah who practiced sexual immorality and perversion. v. 7
- Cain who killed his brother. v. 11
- Balaam who deceived people for money. v. 11
- Korah who rebelled against God's appointed leaders wanting power for himself. v. 11
- They claim authority from their dreams. God speaks to us through His word, not through visions or dreams.
- They live immoral lives.
- They defy authority.
- They scoff at the idea of supernatural beings.
- They scoff at things they do not understand.
- They do whatever they want without regard to right and wrong.
Psalm 31
This is a good psalm to go to when we are feeling stressed. David surely was! As he mentions the situations causing the stress, he turns his trust to God.
- He was stressed about his enemies, "Pull me from the trap my enemies set for me, for I find protection in you alone. I entrust my spirit into your hand. Rescue me, Lord, for you are a faithful God." vv. 4-5
- He was discouraged and maybe even depressed. "Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am in distress. Tears blur my eyes...But I am trusting you, O Lord, saying 'You are my God!' My future is in your hands." v. 9, 14, 15
- He expresses his faith in God. "How great is the goodness you have stored up for those who fear you. You lavish it on those who come to you for protection, blessing them before the watching world." v. 19
- He praises God. "Praise the Lord, for he has shown me the wonders of his unfailing love." v. 21
- He encourages others to trust God. "Love the Lord, all you godly ones! For the Lord protects those who are loyal to him, but he harshly punishes the arrogant. So be strong and courageous, all you who put your hope in the Lord!" vv. 23-24
