Revelation chapters 10-14 deal with the middle of the 7 year tribulation--the 3 1/2 year point. Revelation 10 deals with the testimony of the "mighty angel from heaven." v. 1 He is "robed in a cloud" which indicates that he came from God since clouds are often associated with God. The rainbow about his head reminds us that God is merciful and remembers His promises even in the midst of judgment. His face like the sun and his legs like fiery pillars remind us a descriptions in other places of the Lord Jesus Christ. The stance with "his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land," indicates that he is associated with Jesus as a conqueror of the whole world! Only Jesus could make such a claim.
John is forbidden from writing what the seven thunders said. Rather, he is told to take the little scroll and eat it. The little scroll represents the Word of God. We are to "take it in." It contains sweet promises as well as bitter warnings. Finally, John is commanded to prophesy again, and so his mission is not finished.
Psalm 46:8-11
"Come and see the works of the Lord..." v. 8 How often we go through our lives with little thought of the Lord. Yet His works are all around us every day!
- He can bring desolations--calamities of all sorts--upon the earth.
- He alone can make wars to cease. We are thankful for our military forces, but we must remember that ultimately God is in control!
And then when we feel alone and perhaps hopeless, we remember v. 11 "The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress." Truly, we are never alone or hopeless.
For our meditation today: "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress."
