Matthew 5:9
"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God."
Conflict in this world, whether worldwide or personal, is the result of sin. As believers we are to be peacemakers, and the best way to accomplish that is through the Gospel. John Phillips in Exploring the Gospel of Matthew p. 90, said, "Genuine peace between man and man can be achieved only when there is peace between man and God in human hearts. So the goal of the peacemaker is to get people right with God: then they will quickly get right with one another." Of course, people (including ourselves) will not always be right with God. But Romans 12:18 tells us "If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone." So I would say the general message here is that we are to be peacemakers, rather than trouble makers!
Psalm 75
We live in wicked and violent world. We have only to turn on our TV news for 30 seconds, as we are reminded of this. But we can be thankful that God is still on the throne, His Name is near, and He is still doing wonderful deeds. v. 1 God will judge the world rightly at His appointed time, "when the earth and all its people quake..." vv. 2-3 The arrogant and the wicked and the defiant will give account to God Himself. vv. 4-8
But what about us as believers? We will continue to trust the Lord! We will sing His praises forever knowing that He will destroy the wicked and lift up the righteous. vv. 9-10
