Psalm 78

Psalm 78
This is a psalm of instruction. "O my people, hear my teaching; listen to the words of my mouth." This is still important instruction today. Many voices vie for our attention, but we must listen to the most important one--God's! v. 1

The psalmist next instructs us not to hide what God has done from our children. I know it sounds like a cliche, but they DO grow up so fast, and those early years are so busy, that many times, we don't teach biblical truth to our children. Of course, we can't go back, but we always have people in our lives whom we can influence. And, perhaps most important of all, we can pray! "We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done." They in turn will tell their children, "then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands." vv. 4-7

The remainder of this psalm is a long history lesson of how God worked in the lives of His people. He repeatedly provided for them, gave them victory, rescued them, blessed them. When they neglected to properly teach the next generation, they would turn away from the true God, and He would have to discipline them until they returned to Him. Then the cycle would begin over again.

We must never forget what God has done. We must worship, serve, and obey Him, and we must do what we can to teach the next generation to know and trust Him.
