Psalm 150 (New Living Translation)

1 Praise the Lord!

Praise God in his sanctuary;
    praise him in his mighty heaven!
2 Praise him for his mighty works;
    praise his unequaled greatness!
3 Praise him with a blast of the ram’s horn;
    praise him with the lyre and harp!
4 Praise him with the tambourine and dancing;
    praise him with strings and flutes!
5 Praise him with a clash of cymbals;
    praise him with loud clanging cymbals.
6 Let everything that breathes sing praises to the Lord!

Praise the Lord!

What a beautiful and ecstatic end to the Hebrew hymnal! The last five psalms begin with the words, "Praise the Lord," but this one, though short, is so exuberant that it makes us smile!

We are to praise the Lord in His sanctuary and in his mighty heaven! We are to praise God everywhere!

"Praise him for his mighty works." His might works are innumerable, not least of which is the miracle of our salvation. We, who deserve nothing but punishment from God, have been graciously offered the gift of salvation!  Jesus was our substitute; He was punished in our place. He took our sin upon Himself and laid His righteousness on us. "God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." 2 Corinthians 5:21 NIV

Wow! That sounds pretty loud and raucous! Maybe our services should be more like a celebration than like a funeral! It's OK to be excited about our great God. Really!

"Let everything that breathes sing praises to the Lord!" That covers it all!
