Genesis 11:10-32; Psalm 8

Genesis 11:10-32
Now we go back to the genealogy of Noah's son, Shem. This was God's plan to bless the world through the line of Shem. His people were called "Semites," and they were the ancestors of the Hebrew (Jewish) people. Through them, many generations later, God would send Jesus to bring salvation to all would receive it!

This particular genealogy goes from Shem v. 10 to Abram, later called Abraham. v. 26. As we go along, we will see that Abraham was a very important man in God's plan.

Psalm 8
Yesterday we looked at the beautiful opening declaration of praise to the Lord: "O LORD, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth, Who have set Your glory above the heavens!"

v. 2 reminds us that little children are wiser than many adults because they trust God without question. There are many happenings in this life that we'll never understand, but we should ask God to help us to have a child-like trust in Him. He's got this!

When we consider the vast universe, "Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained," we do have to wonder why God would be remotely concerned with one, seemingly insignificant human being such as you or me! Yet He is indeed concerned. He has made us just a little lower than the angels, and we are made in His own image. He even "visited" us when He came to earth in the form of a man, the Lord Jesus! And so we should not put ourselves down, but we should have respect for ourselves and the utmost respect for God. vv. 3-5

vv. 6-8 tell us about our responsibilities over God's creation. We are to be in charge of it (have dominion over it), all the while taking good care of it. We are never told to worship it or that it's more important than people. But we are to be good, faithful caretakers.

And then the psalm ends with more words of praise, "O LORD, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth!"
