Romans 10:5-13

Romans 10:5-13
Paul is continuing the discussion about being made right with God. In verse 4, we read "all who believe in him are made right with God." After talking about some ways that do NOT make a person right with God, he goes on in vv. 9 and 10, "If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved." This is another way to say the same thing we have seen over and over in the New Testament. To be saved is to say and believe and trust that Jesus is Lord (God in the flesh), that He came and died as payment for our sin, that God raised Him from the dead, and that you believe and apply these truths to yourself. These truths apply to every human being. "For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." v. 13 And here we see yet another slightly different way of saying the same thing. Salvation was never intended to be a hidden message or a complicated formula. It is a simple message of faith.

People cannot come to God any way they choose--you know--the "all roads lead to heaven" sort of teaching. The Bible is clear that salvation comes through faith in Jesus as He is revealed in the Bible. On the other hand no individual is left out of the invitation we see in v. 4, 11, and 13. These verses and many others clearly teach that "everyone (whosoever) who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." Salvation is for anyone who will believe!
