1 Peter 1:13-16
We serve a holy God. He sets the standards for human conduct. As believers, we are to "think clearly and exercise self-control." v. 13 We are to keep our minds alert and ourselves disciplined because Jesus Christ who has granted us salvation may be revealed to the world at any time. Somehow, it doesn't seem possible or likely though we know the Bible tells us to ready for Christ's return because no one knows the day or hour. These verses remind us not to slip back into our old ways. Before we were saved, we didn't know any better, but now we are to strive to be holy, just as God is holy. God's holiness includes his grace and mercy as well as his justice and purity. And so we are to try, inwardly and outwardly, to imitate the character of God as shown to us in the scripture. We are not to be proud or self-righteous as these are not godly traits, but we recognize that it's the Holy Spirit living within us who helps us obey.
Psalm 148
All creation praises the Lord! If you think about it and look around, surely you can see that God is mighty and powerful and even artistic! Surely nature stands as a testimony to God's handiwork. vv. 1-10
All people should follow nature's example--"kings of the earth and all people, rulers and judges of the earth, young men and young women, old men and children." vv. 11-12 That just about covers it! "Let them all praise the name of the Lord. For his name is very great; his glory towers over the earth and heavens!" v. 13
