1 Peter 4:1-6
We should strive to have the same attitude Christ had; we should determine to do His will; and we should be willing to suffer for His sake if necessary. It seems from v. 1 that those who are called on to suffer for the Lord may have less appetite for sin! v. 1, 3 And we should put our sinful past behind us. We all have different backgrounds and circumstances from our past, but they should not hold our attention nor hold us back as we serve the Lord. Even if our old friends don't understand, we must remember that they will one day answer to God, and our job is to please the Lord and share the Good News as we have opportunity. vv. 4-6
Psalm 5
This psalm is about prayer. The psalmist asks God to hear him, pay attention to him, listen to him. Sometimes it seems as if God is not listening, and apparently the psalmist felt this way as well. So when we feel that way, it's OK to ask God to listen. Apparently the psalmist kept on praying and did not give up. "Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly." v. 3
The psalmist goes on to ask God to deal with his enemies, and he praises God for the opportunity to worship at God's Temple. v. 7
Then he ends the psalm with words of confidence in God. "But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them sing joyful praises forever. Spread your protection over them, that all who love your name may be filled with joy. For you bless the godly, O Lord; you surround them with your shield of love." vv. 11-12
