1 Peter 4:12-19
In this chapter we have seen that we are not to be defeated by the past, and we are to be serious about spiritual things in the present. The chapter ends with a warning to be prepared for the future. It's possible that we as believers will be called on to suffer for our Christian faith just as did these believers to whom Peter is writing. We are told to even be glad when trials come because they make us more like Christ who certainly suffered through no failure or sin of His own. Anyone can suffer because they do wrong things--"murder, stealing, making trouble, or prying into other people's affairs." v. 15 These actions bring shame, but it is no shame to suffer for being a Christian.
"So if you are suffering in a manner that pleases God, keep on doing what is right, and trust your lives to the God who created you, for he will never fail you." v. 19
That last phrase is a good one to remember in lots of circumstances. "...keep on doing what is right, and trust your lives to the God who created you, for he will never fail you"!
Psalm 6
David is telling God all his troubles and complaints in this psalm. This is a very good practice because we can tire and frustrate those around us with our constant complaining. At the very least, we should take our troubles to God FIRST. He is never impatient! David asks God for compassion because he is weak, miserable, sick at heart, exhausted, and grieving. Wow! We can come to God in all honesty. Nothing we say will shock Him! Just the practice of talking it out to God can often calm and reassure us. This was the case with David. "The Lord has heard my plea; the Lord will answer my prayer." v. 9
