These verses are about growing as a Christian. If you will remember, vv. 3 and 4 remind us that "God has given us everything we need for living a godly life." We, as believers, actually share God's divine nature.
In view of this, v. 5 tells us to "make every effort to respond to God's promises."
- Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence.
- Supplement moral excellence with knowledge.
- Supplement your knowledge with self-control.
- Supplement your self-control with patient endurance.
- Supplement your patient endurance with godliness.
- And to your godliness, add brotherly affection.
- And supplement your brotherly affection with love for everyone!

And so we should not be complacent. We know that we did not and cannot work for our salvation. That is clearly given to us a a free gift. But if we are truly born again, we will want to live for the Lord. Let's trust God that we will show forth this wonderful list of attributes that will reflect well on our Lord Jesus Christ!
Psalm 9:3-10
David is praising the Lord remembering how God has defeated his enemies. vv. 3-6
Then in vv. 7-10 he tells us some attributes of God.
- He reigns forever. No matter how dark this world may seem, we need to remember that our God reigns!
- He will judge the world and the nations justly and fairly.
- He is a shelter for the oppressed, a refuge in time of trouble. God always seems to be on the side of the "underdog."
- He is totally trustworthy! "Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O Lord, do not abandon those who search for you." v. 10
