Psalm 54
What do we do when we are in trouble? What do we do when we feel attacked or unfairly criticized? What SHOULD we do in any kind of difficulty?

We should pray! "Save me, O God, by your name; vindicate me by your might. Hear my prayer, O god; listen to the words of my mouth." Often our problems cannot be solved any other way except by God Himself. Surely we should go to Him first before we take action so as to not make matters even worse! We should remember that God is our help, the One who sustains us. v. 4

And then we should be thankful. It's a terrible sin to be ungrateful to our gracious and merciful Heavenly Father. "I will sacrifice a freewill offering to you; I will praise your name, O Lord, for it is good."

Looking ahead to Psalm 55, we see that it begins in a way similar to Psalm 54:2, "Listen to my prayer, O God, do not ignore my plea; hear me and answer me." It often seems that God is not listening. The problem is with us and not with God! We should follow the example of the Psalms and keep praying. When we do and when we LISTEN by studying and meditating on His Word, we will gain assurance that God has heard and answered us. Psalm 54:7 indicates that God did hear David's prayer and delivered him from his troubles.
