Revelation 18
This chapter is about the fall of Babylon in the end times. Babylon represents the entire world system which is the enemy of God. vv. 1-3
God's people are called to separate themselves from her so that we will not share in her sins and we will not endure any of the judgments due her. vv. 4ff. Her sins have piled up before God; they include idolatry and pride and worship of pleasure. She will be judged and destroyed in one day. v. 8
Those who have loved this world will mourn when they see her destroyed. vv. 9-19 Their riches will mean nothing at that time!
In contrast to the sorrow of the world will be the rejoicing in heaven! It's important to look at these events from God's point of view. He has been gracious and patient for many, many centuries. Eventually, He will judge the sinful world and win the victory over Satan as He has promised. vv 18-24. The religious and political system of "the beast" will at last be destroyed.
Psalm 59
It seems that God is always on the side of the oppressed, the poor, and the powerless. We know that this world is full of wicked people, often in places of power, who take advantage of people. God sees all this, and He will judge rightly in the affairs of men. Some day, "The righteous will be glad when they are avenged,...Then men will say, 'Surely the righteous still are rewarded; surely there is a God who judges the earth.'"
Let us lean heavily on our heavenly Father who loves us and who has the power to carry out all His promises!
