Psalm 75
"We thank you, O God! We give thanks because you are near." We have so many reasons to be thankful, but one of the main ones is that God is near! We are never alone!
We should tell people everywhere of His wonderful deeds, and warn of His judgment. But He alone is the judge. He will choose the proper time, and it WILL happen, but we do not know when. The wicked may think they are getting away with evil, but God's judgement will come, and it will be just.
It's interesting that after all this talk about wickedness and judgment, Asaph sings praises to God and proclaims the truth about God. Worship and praise to God may be the best witnessing that we can do. So rather than feeling afraid or angry or frustrated, or otherwise disturbed about all the evil in the world, we must remember that God sees it all and He will deal with it. Our job is to keep praising Him!
Luke 9:18-36
Peter proclaims who Jesus is in v. 20, "You are the Messiah sent from God!" Remember that any teaching that minimizes the truth about Jesus and the fact that He is God is not true. This is central to essential Christian doctrine.
Jesus then predicts what will happen to Him and tells His disciples and others that they must deny themselves, take up their cross, and follow Him. Peter, James, and John did this the best way they knew how, though they were not perfect men. Eight days later they were given the privilege to see the glory of God. Peter, never one to hold his tongue, said the wrong thing. But God was merciful to him, and they heard God the Father's voice saying, "This is my Son, my Chosen One. Listen to him." What great advice for all believers everywhere! Listen to Jesus!
