This psalm opens with praise to the Lord for "all his benefits." What are some of these good things David praises Him for? It reads something like a "count your blessings" list. This would be a good psalm to read when we're feeling sorry for ourselves! In fact, it's a good psalm to read often!
- He forgives our sins v 3
- Heals our diseases v 3
- Lifts us up and crowns us with love and compassion v 4
- Satisfies our desires with good things v 5
- Strengthens us v 5
- He works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed v 6
- He is compassionate and gracious v 8, 13
- He is slow to anger, abounding in love v. 8
- He does not treat us as our sins deserve v. 10 Praise the Lord for this!
- His love is boundless v. 11
- Once He forgives our sins, He never again brings them up against us. v. 12 The east will never meet the west, and so we can rest assured that our forgiven sins are gone forever.
- He understands our weaknesses vv 14-16
- His love is eternal, and it even reaches to our grandchildren and beyond! vv 17-18
For our meditation: "For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;" Psalm 103:11-13
