Psalm 107:1-9

Psalm 107:1-9
This psalm praises the Lord for His unfailing love! What a wonderful God who hears our prayers when we're in need! The study notes from the Life Application Study Bible identify 4 kinds of people who are in distress, and God hears their prayers. I think we will see that perhaps our distresses can easily fall into one of these categories, and perhaps we will also see that our calamities are not as great as they might be.  The four categories are wanderers, prisoners, the distressed, and the storm-tossed.

Like many other psalms, this one begins with an introduction which simply praises God. What a great practice this is! "Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, his love endures forever. Let the redeemed of the Lord say this--those he redeemed from the hand of the foe, those he gathers from the lands, from east and west, from north and south." When we give thanks and remember His great love, even this lessons our anxiety. And when we recall how good God has been, we should not keep it to ourselves.

Today we will look at the first of the troubled souls, the wanderers. vv. 4-9 God is merciful to those who for whatever reason have "lost their way." This may be literal or figurative. If we find ourselves unsure of where we're going in life, we should do like the Israelites who "cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress." He led them to the place where they should settle. Likewise, in His wisdom, He will lead us in the paths we should go.

For our meditation:  "Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men, for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things." Psalm 107:8-9

Our God is an awesome God!
