The word faith is somewhat vague to us if we don't really think about it. Romans 10:17 tells us that faith comes from "hearing" the word of God--studying it with the intention of learning and obeying! This Psalm uses the word trust which for me is a good descriptive word for faith. And it tells us some of the results of putting our trust in the Lord.
- We'll be stable. It's hard to be more stable than a mountain which can't be moved! v. 1 We live in a world where many are emotionally unstable, and instability is generally not a sign of mature faith in God. (I understand that mental illness is real, but I'm speaking generally.)
- We'll be secure. The Lord surrounds us, and He will not leave us, and so we have no need to be fearful. v. 2
- We'll look to God as our "ruler." v. 3 We recognize earthly authority, but God is our ultimate authority, and our major goal is to please Him. We remain submitted to Him so that we don't give in to the temptations of the evil world.
- We'll live in such a way, keeping our hearts in tune with God, so that He can bless us. v. 4
