Colossians 2:1-5; Psalm 90

Col. 2:1-5
Paul wished for the believers "to be encouraged and knit together by strong ties of love." This would help them to stand against heresy and to "understand God's mysterious plan, which is Christ himself." "In him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge." v. 3 The false teaching that was creeping in said that there was some important secret knowledge that was hidden from most believers. According to v. 3, this is not true. Christ provides to us as individuals all the wisdom and knowledge we need. We access this wisdom and knowledge by trusting Christ as our Savior, centering our lives on Him, and becoming fully acquainted with God's Word. Pressing toward spiritual knowledge and wisdom is a life-long task, and we must never stop learning!

Psalm 90
This psalm was written by Moses who wrote it after the nation of Israel had rebelled against God, and He had punished them. It contrasts the eternal nature of God with the short time man spends on this earth.

One of the hardest concepts to consider is eternity past and future--God has always been, and He always will be. "Before the mountains were born, before you gave birth to the earth and the world, from beginning to end, you are God." v. 2

By contrast, we are like the grass which springs up in the morning when it blooms and flourishes, but by evening it is dry and withered." vv. 5-6

"Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom." Some other versions of the Bible say "So teach us to number our days, That we may gain a heart of wisdom." I like the thought of "numbering our days." A day goes by quickly, and then another and another, and soon a year has passed and then a decade, etc. We must make each day count! After all, we live a day at a time. And no matter how long we live--some may live to be over 100--compared to eternity it is a very short time. We find joy and satisfaction in our daily relationship with God. "Satisfy us each morning with your unfailing love, so we may sing for joy to the end of our lives." v. 14 Though life is short, and we bear many burdens, it is worth living when we trust the Lord.
