Hebrews
4:1-11
Are
you tired? Do you need rest? The idea of God’s rest is used in at least 2 ways
in this section. In vv. 1 and 3, it obviously refers to salvation—eternal rest.
“For only we who believe can enter his rest.”
V. 3
The
word “rest” in this passage also refers to resting from working for our
salvation. Just as God rested on the 7th day from His work of
creation, v. 4, we can rest in the assurance of our salvation because of the
finished work of Christ on the cross. V. 10
The
word “rest" also refers to trust and faith in any situation. With all the unrest in the world, we need God who is totally trustworthy.
I
don’t know about you, but I need this “rest” in every sense of the word.
Psalm
119:105-112
“Your
word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.”
Sometimes
we don’t know what to do or what decision to make. We may even make a comment
something like, “I’m in the dark about this or that.” The psalmist in these
verses reminds us that God will shed light on our decisions, and we need to
follow God’s Word all our lives.
