Hebrews 5:1-10; Psalm 119:121-128

Hebrews 5:1-10
In Hebrews 4, we learned that Jesus is our High Priest. Remember that, though it applies to us today, Hebrews was written primarily to the Jews, and so it gives us the qualifications for
earthly high priests as found in the Old Testament. (Earthly high priests are no longer needed because Jesus is now our High Priest.)

• He was a man.
• He represented other people before God.
• He presented their gifts to god.
• He offered sacrifices for the people's sins. v. 1
• He was compassionate because he was subject to the same weaknesses as the people. v. 2
• He was called by God. v. 4

Jesus became our High Priest, and He fulfills all these qualifications except of course He was sinless.
Christ is a Priest forever after the order of Melchizedek, who was called a "King Priest." v. 6
"Even though Jesus was God's Son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered. In this way, God qualified him as a perfect High Priest, and he became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey him." vv. 8-9

Psalm 119:121-128
The psalmist prays for rescue from his enemies. We know it's always appropriate to call on God in stressful times.

"Truly, I love your commands more than gold, even the finest gold." v. 127
This is quite a statement! Can we honestly say that we love God's Word more than any other precious thing?If we do, we surely won't neglect it.
