Hebrews 6:7-12
The writer in vv. 7 and 8, compares the Christian life to a field or garden. The ground is the heart and life of the person. God plants the good seed of the Gospel and through His grace showers it with His blessing. Of course some weeds will come into our lives to trouble us, but generally speaking our lives honor God with good fruit. If the "field" produces only thorns, thistles, and weeds, it is a sign that the person has never really trusted Jesus for his or her salvation.
The writer of Hebrews goes on to say that he believes the Hebrews are true believers, and that the previous warning does not really apply to them. He encourages them to go on with their faithful Christian living, serving God and loving others. If they will remain faithful, God will reward them. God never forgets us or our faithful service to Him. vv. 9-12
Psalm 119:137-144
Here we again see the psalmist express his trust in God's Word which is righteous, fair, perfect, and trustworthy. vv. 137-38. His promises have been thoroughly tested, (v. 140) and they can pass our tests too. Nothing surprises God!
I particularly noticed v. 143. Pressure, stress, and anxiety are common problems in our modern world, but apparently they are not new. "As pressure and stress bear down on me, I find joy in your commands." God's Word is the first place we should always go when we are feeling stressed. God often provides other help as well, but we should not expect ut if we neglect God's Word.
