Hebrews 12:5-11
Don't be afraid of the word "discipline" in this passage. Notice v. 5 reminds us of "encouraging words" God speaks to us as His children. The idea of what God does for us is rather like "child-rearing." Punishment may be a part of it, but not the only part. The goal is for us to become mature and self-disciplined. Isn't this the same goal we have for our own children? How much more our perfect Heavenly Father wants for us! "But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way." v. 11
Psalm 133
"How wonderful and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony!" This can be applied to the family or to the church. In either case, this harmony must come down from the Lord. "For harmony is as precious as the anointing oil that was poured over Aaron's head..." It "is as refreshing as the dew..." which is a blessing from the Lord.
So many times our conflicts come from petty and selfish motives. It's a worthy prayer to ask God that we will always do our part to build harmonious relationships. We can also pray about how others act as well! It's a wonderful testimony to the world around us when our families and church families "live together in harmony."
