Hebrews 13:7-25; Psalm 136:2-4

Hebrews 13:7-25
The remainder of this book is a reminder that we can't successfully run this Christian race alone. The writer encourages us to follow our spiritual leaders--those who have taught us the Word of God and who have done good deeds and have faithfully followed the Lord Jesus. Of course, He is our ultimate leader, and He is "the same yesterday, today, and forever, v. 8 Watch out for people who come up with strange new teachings or who put too much emphasis on keeping rules. He uses the example of food here because that was apparently at problem to the Hebrews. We don't have to offer sacrifices like they did in the Old Testament days. Jesus has done that with His own blood, once for all. Instead, we are to "offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to his name. And don't forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God. vv. 15-16

So getting back to truly Godly leaders. According to this passage, we are to

• Remember them and their teaching. v. 7
• Obey them, if they are faithful to watch over your soul as a shepherd. Remember that they are accountable to God. v. 17
• Pray for them. v. 18 Ask the Great Shepherd to equip them with all they need for doing his will and give them the power of Jesus Christ in order that they may do every good thing that is pleasing to Him. vv. 20-21

Psalm 136:2-4

"Give thanks to the God of gods. His faithful love endures forever.

Give thanks to the Lord of lords. His faithful love endures forever.

Give thanks to him who alone does mighty miracles. His faithful love endures forever."
