Matthew 8:14-17
These few verses show that Jesus has power over diseases and evil spirits. With a single touch, He healed Peter's mother-in-law so thoroughly that she was able to get up and wait on Him! What a beautiful way for her to show her faith and gratitude. And with a word He drove out evil spirits and healed many. Jesus also has the power and authority to heal us of our sin. After all, sickness and evil are results of sin. If He can banish them, He surely can deliver us from our sin. Also, the fact that Jesus removed sickness and evil spirits is a picture of what heaven will be like--all the suffering that results from sickness and evil will be gone!
Psalm 90:3-6
Here we come face to face with the brevity of life. The older we get we find ourselves saying more and more often, "Where does the time go?" "I can't believe it's been 20 years (or 50!) since such and such happened!" The Bible tells us that our lives are as brief as dreams or as grass that springs up in the morning and is withered by the evening. I think I believe this now more than I did 50 years ago!
But God is not limited by time as we are. "For a thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night." v. 4 God does not have the limitations we have. He is not growing old and feeble, and His life is not "passing by" like ours. He is eternal, and His promises are forever!
