Psalm 90:7-17

Psalm 90:7-17
This psalm continues with the theme of the brevity of life. Oh, how we know it! "The length of our days is seventy years or eighty, if we have the strength; yet their span is but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away." v. 10 No matter where we are in age, we all know that life is often plagued with troubles. We cannot escape sorrows. This is the result of sin in this world as was promised in Genesis! And the sin problem was why Jesus came! His sacrifice, His blood if you will, has delivered us from the penalty of sin. Even though we live out our lives here on the sin-plagued earth, we have a perfect eternity to look forward to. Look back at vv. 4-5 for a reminder of how short our earthly lives are and how long eternity is.

"Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." v. 12 We should make sure our days count for the Lord. I believe wasting our time is a temptation for people of every age. When we're young, we think that we'll never grow old so we squander our days. One would think the opposite would be true in old age, but then our temptation may be to think, "I'm too old," or "I deserve to relax," or "Let the young people do it." No matter what our age, let's not waste our lives!

"Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days." v. 14

"May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us--yes, establish the work of our hands." v. 17 There will be plenty of time for rest in heaven! Let us be faithful in the place God has put us, and let us be busy about the Lord's work while we can!
