Psalm 119:129-136
Just a brief thought tonight as we close out 2014. We'll end the year with a word from the Lord, and begin the next one with the same!

The psalmist starts the section by declaring that God's laws are wonderful--no wonder he wants to obey them. I think this tells us that the more we value God's Word, the more likely we are to respect and obey it. In v. 2, he goes back to the theme of darkness and light. "The teaching of your word gives light, so even the simple can understand." It's a good thing because I'm afraid we're all rather "simple," and we tend to make foolish or rebellious decisions (v. 133) unless we walk according to the light of God's Word. In some versions, v. 135 reads, "Make Your face shine upon Your servant..."
And so we might think of it this way, God's Word shines to light our way, and God's face shines on us with love. This should fill us with security and confidence as we face another year!
