Psalm 119:97-104
This section teaches us that when we love God's Word, listen to it, meditate on it, and obey it, we gain a certain wisdom. We surely shouldn't take advice from our enemies (v. 98), but even our friends, teachers, (v. 99) or elders (v. 100) cannot give us the counsel that God can. It's good to seek counsel from godly people, but in the end, God knows us perfectly, and so we must make our decisions based on His perfect Word.
Acts 5:12-32
Ananias and Sapphira had been severely disciplined, fear had fallen on all the believers, and in this section, we see great power at work among them. The apostles worked signs and wonders among the people. Many multitudes believed and many were healed.
While God was at work in such a dramatic way, those pesky Jewish leaders were jealous. Again they arrested the apostles and put them in jail. "But an angel of the Lord came at night, opened the gates of the jail, and brought them out. Then he told them, 'Go to the Temple and give the people this message of life!'" So at daybreak they obeyed. All this was obviously shocking and puzzling to the guards and to the leaders of Israel! So again they arrested them saying, "Didn't we tell you never again to teach in this man's name?" The apostles repeated their position, "We must obey God rather than any human authority." They had the Word of God on their side and so they could be bold.
