Psalm 119:57-64
This section tells about choosing friends. v. 63 says, "I am a friend to anyone who fears you--anyone who obeys your commandments." Sometimes God does His work through Godly friends--people who also love God's Word. This passage seems to indicate that we are to give that kind of friendship as well as receive it. Evil people (or even negative ones) are not able to drag us down if we are firmly anchored to God's Word. v. 61.
The section ends on a positive note as so many of them do, "O Lord, your unfailing love fills the earth; teach me your decrees."
Acts 3:1-11
Yesterday we saw that many people were being saved, and the Christian community was growing at a breakneck pace. You might think Peter and John would have been overwhelmed with responsibility, but we see in this passage that they had time to pray v. 1 and to have compassion on the lame beggar. Peter told him that he had no money to offer, but he would give of what he had. What he had was the power of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. He called on this power to heal the man. I love the result, "Then Peter took the lame man by the right hand and helped him up. And as he did, the man's feet and ankles were instantly healed and strengthened. He jumped up, stood on his feet, and began to walk! Then, walking, leaping, and praising God, he went into the Temple with them." As you can imagine, this scene attracted quite a bit of attention. Peter took advantage of this gathering to preach to the crowd. Tomorrow we will look at his sermon.
