Hebrews 2; Psalm 119:81-88

Hebrews 2

Hear the Word of God!  vv. 1-4
We must take very seriously the Word of God so that we don't drift away into false teaching. v. 1  In Old Testament times God spoke through the prophets and even through angels, and He punished people who were disobedient. v. 2  Now that we have God's full revelation in Jesus Christ and in His Word, our obligation to obey is even greater. God confirmed the truth of the words of Jesus of His disciples by giving signs and wonders to the early church. vv.3-4

See Jesus!  vv. 5-9
We don't yet see Jesus in all His glory, and we don't yet see Him with authority over all things. But by faith, "What we do see is Jesus, who was given a position 'a little lower than the angels'; (this was when He became a man) and because he suffered death for us, he is now 'crowned with glory and honor.'

Trust Jesus! vv. 9-18
God has shown His wonderful grace toward us in sending His Son to taste death in our place. Christ's death was God's chosen way to "bring many children into glory." vv. 9-10 When we trust Jesus for salvation, we become God's children, and even Jesus Himself is not ashamed to call us His brothers and sisters! This is amazing!

We, as God's children, are human beings, made of flesh and blood. This is why the Son had to become flesh and blood so that He could die, and "only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death." Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection have set us free from the fear of dying. vv. 14-15

In addition to victory over death, Jesus became like us so that he could be our "merciful and faithful High Priest before God." As the High Priest, He could offer that final sacrifice (His own life) that would take about the sins of the people. "Since he himself has gone through suffering and testing, he is able to help us when we are being tested." vv. 16-18

Yes, Jesus is surely worthy of our trust!

Psalm 119:81-88
When our strength, and even our eyes are failing, God's Word will give us strength. When we are discouraged and/or fearful, this is when we most need to put our hope in God's Word. It is trustworthy, and we can count on it.
