Reminders!
- We as believers are to be good citizens. We are responsible to God first, but we are not above the law. We should always be ready to do what is good. We must not slander anyone, and we must avoid quarreling. We should be gentle and show true humility to everyone. vv. 1-2
- We should remember that we were once lost sinners! v. 3
- We should remember what Jesus did for us. vv. 4-6 reminds us of the heart of the Gospel, the Good News. God saved us because of His love and kindness to us, not because of any righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy. "He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth, and new life through the Holy Spirit. Because of his grace he declared us righteous and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life. He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior." (Interesting to note that all three members of the Trinity are mentioned in these 3 verses.)
- Because of all that God did for us, we should devote ourselves to doing good. v. 8
- Do not get involved with petty discussions or with people who cause divisions among believers. vv. 9-11
God's Word promises us comfort. v, 50, 52 We live in troubling and violent times. We should find our comfort in God's Word when we feel angry or fearful. We should "reflect at night on who you are O Lord; therefore, I obey your instructions." v. 55
