Titus 2:1-10
Paul tells Titus to promote wholesome teaching--the kind that is reflected in our right living. All believers--old men, old women, young men, young women, even the slaves which were present in that day and time--are needed in the church! Our churches should follow this example by accepting and ministering to a variety of people. We need one another, and we should love and embrace diversity!
These verses give advice to everyone of all ages and circumstances. And Titus himself was to be an example by doing good works of every kind. v. 7 How we live can bring shame on the word of God, v. 5, or it can make God our Savior attractive in every way. v. 10
Psalm 119:33-40
We can never find happiness and joy by seeking after money or other "worthless things." vv. 36-37 The word "worthless things" was also used in the Bible for idols. And truly, our money, homes, cars, and all these material things can indeed become idols. These things have no eternal value, and too much attention on getting more "things" can hurt our relationships with family and others as well as turn our hearts away from God. In this passage the psalmist prays for God to teach him His ways. "Make me walk along the path of your commands, for that is where my happiness is found." v. 35
