Titus 2:11-15
The grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, and it shows us how we should live, turning from godless living and sinful pleasures and living in this world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God. The words may roll off the tongue but the actions are not so easy! All the while we are to look forward "to that wonderful day when the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be revealed. He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds." vv. 13-14 Titus was to teach these things and encourage the believers to do them. And we must remember that these words are for us as well!
Psalm 119:41-48
Notice v. 45, "I will walk in freedom, for I have devoted myself to your commandments." This seems like an oxymoron--God's commandments bring freedom? Yet it's true. Obedience to God frees us to be everything God designed us to be. It frees us from the entrapment that sin brings and the guilt that results. This concept is reinforced in the New Testament, John 8:32, "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
