Psalm 93; Luke 15

Psalm 93
"The Lord is king!" "The Lord reigns."
OK. What does this even mean? The Lord REIGNS. If we're not careful, this little sentence becomes another cliche, words that make a nice praise chorus that we sing in church. Rulers of this earth have believed that they reigned, and some even now probably believe they are in charge, but the Lord really does reign. He is sovereign, and everything is under His control. If we really meditate on this truth, it should alleviate our anxieties.

And so what is this Ruler like?
1. He is majestic (robed or clothed in majesty).
2. He is strong (armed with strength).
3. He is eternal--"You yourself are from the everlasting past." v. 2
4. He is mightier than the raging of the sea. This is a metaphor to say that God is mightier than anything we can imagine on this earth.
5. His Word is unchangeable, and we can depend on it. v. 5

And so for today, let's meditate on this truth, "The Lord reigns."

Luke 15
This chapter contains 3 parables or stories that Jesus used to explain to the Pharisees  why he associated with sinners.
1.  They are lost--a lost sheep, a lost coin, a lost son. In each case, the owner desperately searched for the lost item or grieved for the lost son and rejoiced when the sheep, coin, or son was found. I think these are powerful lessons that God wants--even longs--for lost people to be saved. It is a false religion that would teach that a lost sinner coming to God would be turned away.

2.  Why they were lost or how they got that way. Sheep naturally stray; they are not too smart and don't realize the consequences of their wandering. Perhaps the woman who lost the coin was careless. The son was rebellious and selfish. People are lost for the same reasons: we naturally wander in our own ways; we are careless about spiritual things; we are willful, rebellious, and selfish.

3.  What God does for us. He loves us, searches for us, finds us, rescues us, and then rejoices over us! He has done this for those of us who are believers. He offers hope to every sinner. He is not an angry Father waiting to punish His wayward son, but a loving Dad who celebrates when his wayward child comes home!
