Psalm 96
This psalm is a call to worship. Worship can take various forms, and it really shouldn't be reduced to a formula. This psalm gives us some ideas that can and should be a part of worship:
1. Sing a new song to the Lord. Proclaim the good news that He saves and tell all about the glorious things He does. Remember that He is great, worthy of our praise, that He must be feared (respected). He is the creator, and honor and majesty surround Him.
2. Give Him the glory He deserves. Bring your offerings to Him. He doesn't need our money or our gifts, but we need to give them! Part of our offering must be rejoicing and praise.
3. Look for His coming. "Let the fields and their crops burst out with joy! Let the tress of the forest rustle with praise before the Lord, for he is coming! He is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world with justice, and the nations with his truth." vv. 12-13.
Luke 18:1-8
This whole chapter is about different aspects of prayer. So don't lose track of where we are going with this in the next couple of days.
Praying with confidence, vv. 1-8 Keep in mind that even an unjust judge will help a poor widow who asks for justice. How much more will a loving Father hear and answer His children who are in need?
Praying with humility, vv. 9-17 We do not impress God by bragging about all we do for Him! This is not true prayer. True prayer happens only when we realize we have nothing to offer God, that without His love and grace, we are helpless children and hopeless sinners. God hears the prayers of the humble.
